Homework Rules for Parents

  1. Be Available. Learning should be a joint effort. If you believe it is important, you will impart that belief to your child.
  2. Be Aware. Know what your child's assignments are and what the teacher's expectations are. Supply your child with an assignment notebook and check it daily.
  3. Be Helpful. Answer questions, explain confusing passages, provide transportation to the library, listen to spelling words and math tables, and discuss reports.
  4. Be in Charge. The TV should not be on during homework time. This is a non-negotiable issue.
  5. Be in Communication with the Teacher. He or she needs to know if the homework is too easy, too hard, or taking much too long to complete.
  6. Be sure to check Homework. Every night if possible, but at a minimum 3 times per week to be certain that your child understands the work and the responsibility to complete it.
