Homework Rules for Parents
- Be Available. Learning should be a joint
effort. If you believe it is important, you will impart
that belief to your child.
- Be Aware. Know what your child's assignments
are and what the teacher's expectations are. Supply your
child with an assignment notebook and check it daily.
- Be Helpful. Answer questions, explain
confusing passages, provide transportation to the library,
listen to spelling words and math tables, and discuss reports.
- Be in Charge. The TV should not be on
during homework time. This is a non-negotiable issue.
- Be in Communication with the Teacher.
He or she needs to know if the homework is too easy, too
hard, or taking much too long to complete.
- Be sure to check Homework. Every night
if possible, but at a minimum 3 times per week to be certain
that your child understands the work and the responsibility
to complete it.
